More than 220 killed as powerful quake rocks Mexico City [video]
UPDATE @ September 21, 6.45am: THE death toll from a powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake which rocked Mexico City on Tuesday has risen to 225, and is only expected to rise.
The President has activated the country’s major disaster plan as authorities continue to frantically search for people trapped under the rubble of at least 4o collapsed buildings.
Tragically, 21 children and 5 adults were crushed to death when a local school toppled to the ground. At least 30 school kids remain missing.
The quake struck exactly 32 years after a 1985 earthquake claimed the lives of thousands across Mexico.
It also comes after 98 people were killed in an earthquake in Southern Mexico earlier this month.

EARLIER @ September 20, 10.00am: MORE than 100 people are dead after a powerful 7.1 magnitude quake struck Mexico City.
Heartbreaking vision has been posted online, showing the moment the fatal quake hit. In the confronting footage, dozens of high-rise buildings can be seen toppling to the ground as hundreds of residents run for their lives.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake hit around 1.14pm local time, with the epicentre located about 120km south of Mexico City, at a depth of 51km.
The President has activated the country’s major disaster plan with the death toll expected to rise as authorities continue to search for people trapped under rubble.
It comes after 98 people were killed in an earthquake in Southern Mexico on September 7.
