3 charged, 1 under police guard in hospital, after overnight Sydney brawl

Police have charged three men after a nasty brawl involving a box-cutter in the Sydney CBD this morning.

Emergency services were called to George Street in Sydney around 12.30pm, following initial reports of the brawl.

Officers were told four men – all aged in between 21 and 25 – became involved in an argument and a physical altercation after crossing paths in pairs.


A 21-year-old man was treated at the scene for facial lacerations, before he and the 25-year-old were arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station.

The two other men – aged 22 and 23 – were taken to St Vincent’s hospital where the younger man remains under police guard while being treated for serious head injuries.

The elder of the two was treated for lacerations to his chest, then taken to Day Street Police Station.

The charges for the three men are as follows:

The 21-year-old man has been charged with affray, and recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm after it’s alleged he punched the 22-year-old man in the head, knocking him to the ground and causing head injuries.

The 25-year-old has been charged with affray, and reckless wounding after it’s alleged he slashed at the men with a box-cutter.

The 23-year-old has been charged with affray.

All three have been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
