40 people arrested in 28 raids: Police swoop on Gold Coast crooks

POLICE have raided almost 30 homes on the Gold Coast and arrested 40 people on more than 100 charges as part of a major crackdown on crime in the city.

Dozens of detectives along with officers from the city’s Rapid Action Patrol squad raided 28 properties in 17 suburbs on the Gold Coast on Wednesday morning.

Officers targeted homes in Varsity Lakes, Tugun, Burleigh, Burleigh Waters, Currumbin, Palm Beach, Labrador, Chevron Island, Ashmore, Southport, Coomera, Upper Coomera, Oxenford, Holmview, Ormeau and Pimpama.


During the massive operation, officers allegedly seized a “significant quantity” of methylamphetamines (Ice), cocaine, cannabis, and steroids.

A stockpile of stolen goods, including a motorcycle, watches, diamonds, weapons and fireworks, was also recovered.

In total, 40 people were arrested and charged with 113 offences, including break and enter, possessing, producing and supplying dangerous drugs, stealing, evade police and possessing stolen property.

All are scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court over the coming month.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith from Gold Coast CIB has warned that further arrests are expected.

“Those involved in drug and property crime need to understand; if they continue to offend they will be targeted,” Detective Inspector Smith said.

“We will come back as many times as it is necessary until their behaviour changes.

“The community expect us to do this and accordingly, we will be unrelenting in our efforts.”

Investigations are continuing.
