41st Gold Coast Marathon to attract record number of runners

Dust off your running shoes Gold Coasters, because entries are now open for the 2019 Gold Coast Marathon!

If you needed a little push to get motivated for the new year, this could be the ultimate resolution.

More than 28,000 runners from over 50 countries are expected to take part in next year’s event, which will be held on the Gold Coast from 6th – 7th July.

It comes after this year’s Gold Coast Marathon not only broke participation records, but also smashed previous tourism numbers, pumping $28.5 million into the local economy.

Events Management Queensland CEO Cameron Hart said the Gold Coast is going through a purple patch and expects it to continue well into 2019.

“We’re nearing the end of a stellar year for major events in the region, with the Commonwealth Games, the 40th Gold Coast Marathon and last month’s Pan Pacific Masters Games all breaking records and generating huge buzz for the city,” Mr Hart said.

“We’ve seen this year that there is a strong appetite for events held here and we won’t be surprised if we see record participation from overseas, interstate and Queensland at next year’s marathon.

“Those who weren’t a part of our 40thanniversary celebrations know that they won’t want to miss out again, and those who were here will be keen to come back and relive the excitement of this gold label race.

The 41st Gold Coast Marathon will feature eight races including the Gold Coast Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Gold Coast Airport Fun Run, Garmin 4km Junior Dash and Garmin 2km Junior Dash.
