$6 bottle of red receives highest accolade at international wine competition

An unassuming $6 bottle of cabernet sauvignon sold exclusively by Coles Liquorland has been named one of the best wines at the Melbourne International Wine Competition.

The St Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon earned a coveted “double gold” medal at the competition – meaning it was deemed a “near perfect wine” by every single judge on the panel.

Only 16 out of 1100 wines judged at the competition were granted a double gold medal, and most of those retail for triple or quadruple the price of the Coles drop.

Head of Coles wine sourcing Bob Paulinski, told The Australian that price did not have to be barrier for quality when it comes to choosing a wine.

“A win like this shows that our exclusive wine brands can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the market, and is a testament to the incredible work our suppliers do in making these wines,” he said.
