69-year-old man attacked during attempted robbery

A man has been injured during an attempted robbery in Tweed Heads last night.

A 69-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle parked on Minjungbal Drive when he was approached by a man.

He wound his window down and in doing so the man reached in and started punching him in the head.

The attacker opened the driver’s side door and tried to get in. The victim managed to fight him off and close the door, but the man continued to assault the victim through the open window.

A witness came to the aid of the older man who suffered significant facial injuries including a broken nose.

The attacker ran from the scene and is described as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged between 20 – 30.

Detectives from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command would like to speak with anyone who can help with the investigation.
