$6m funding boost for Gold Coast road safety projects

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is this morning expected to announce major funding into road safety around the country.

The coalition’s road safety package will hope to bring down the national road toll, which reached over 1100 people last year.

$2.2 billion will be spent across Australia to fund road safety.

It’s reported the funding includes $29.6 million for the Gold Coast Roads to Recovery project.

The amount is up an extra $6 million on what was initially budgeted.

It’s believed the Gold Coast City Council will largely direct the funds to improve road safety throughout the region.

This could include fixing problem areas and identifying black spots.

The announcement is also expected to include the creation of a Federal Office of Road Safety.
