79-year-old woman mugged on busy Gold Coast road

Police are searching for two men who allegedly mugged a 79-year-old woman as she walked along a busy Gold Coast road this afternoon.

The elderly woman was walking with her 80-year-old friend along Nerang-Broadbeach Road in Carrara when she was targeted around 4pm.

Police said a passenger in a passing vehicle reached out from the window and yanked the 79-year-old’s handbag from her shoulder.


The male driver then sped off along Nerang-Broadbeach Road.

As a result, police said the elderly woman sustained bruising to her right wrist.

The male passenger is described as being Caucasian, between 18 to 25 years old with blonde hair.

The vehicle is described as a white Toyota Camry with registration plates 524TPE.

Police have taken the time to remind the public to remain vigilant with their personal property, particularly handbags, and to be aware of their surroundings when out and about.

Investigations are continuing.
