81-year-old punched to the ground during Gold Coast mugging

An elderly man has been attacked and robbed, during a shocking mugging on the southern Gold Coast.

Police say the 81-year-old was approached from behind and punched in the back during the ordeal in Tugun on Friday afternoon.

“The man was about to enter a car in Boyd Street at around 5.30pm when he was punched in the back causing him to fall to the ground,” Police said in a statement.

“He was then restrained with a knee or elbow in his back whilst his wallet was removed from his pocket.”

The unknown offender ran off with a sum of cash.

It’s believed the mugger was male, tall and wearing a black hooded jumper and dark jeans.

The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or noticed anyone suspicious in the general vicinity to contact them.
