91yo Sydney man charged with importing cocaine hidden in soap

A 91-year-old Sydney man will be the oldest drug trafficker in the world, if he is convicted of smuggling cocaine.

Victor Twartz appeared in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court today, charged with importing cocaine from New Dehli to Sydney.

The 91-year-old is alleged to have fallen victim to a scam, carrying 27 bars of soap, filled with about 4.5kg of cocaine on July 8.

Twartz, told ABC’s 7:30 Report that he met up with people in Dehli and as he was leaving, claims he was handed a bag that his acquaintances said contained gifts for someone in Australia.

The matter was adjourned until October 6.

The case has prompted warnings to travellers to be wary of their luggage and to be aware of becoming drug couriers for overseas criminal syndicates.
