The Gold Coast is about to host its first ever whale festival, and we’re all invited!
Organised by a local non-government organisation ‘Humpbacks and Highrises’, the FREE festival hopes to increase awareness in the local community about the need to care for our oceans and its inhabitants.
It’s happening on Saturday August 31 at Burleigh Beach, there’ll be plenty of stalls and exhibitors, opportunities to hear stories, whale watching, and plenty more fun activities.

There’ll also be live music, a beach scavenger hunt with prizes, and a movie screening!
So come on down for a whale of a time (sorry), and learn how we impact the welfare of our largest marine animals.
Olaf Meynecke from ‘Humpbacks and Highrises’ says there’ll be lots of information available for the community.
“We have been collecting data on humpback whales and other marine mammals since 2011.
“In fact, it is Queensland’s largest marine mammal monitoring program.
“Now, we want to share some of our excitement about these amazing creatures,” Mr Meynecke said.
