A Mauritian Commonwealth Games Official has been charged with sexual assault

Queensland Police have charged an international delegate from Mauritia after an alleged sexual assault took place on the Gold Coast last week.

The 52-year-old man is accused of assaulting a 26-year-old woman in Southport on March 29.

He was arrested at the Athletes’ Village, before being granted bail at the Southport watchhouse.

The man originally denied the accusations but stepped down from his role in the Mauritian Commonwealth Games team earlier this week.

Police have not revealed the name of the victim.

The man is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on April 17.
