“Absolutely tragic” Child hit and killed by car while walking with mother

A five-year-old girl has been hit and killed by a car in a horror accident in Sydney’s west.

It’s understood the child was crossing Rooty Hill Road North at Plumpton with her mother just before 7.30pm last night, when the pair were struck by a Toyota Tarago.

The young girl suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Westmead Hospital, where she died a short time later.

The child’s mother, a 25-year-old woman, suffered several serious breaks to her tibia and pelvis as well as some spinal injuries.

She remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 61-year-old male driver, who stopped at the scene, was also taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing and is assisting police with inquiries.

However, Detectives have confirmed the incident was a tragic accident.

“No one means to go and do these things,” Detective Chief Inspector Sean Gabin said.

“It’s tragic, absolutely tragic.”

Investigations are continuing.
