Accused murderer arrested after five years on the run

A MAN will face court today, charged with murdering a man in small town near Sydney five years ago.

Scott Hammond, 48, was found dead at his Ibbotson Street home at Tahmoor on Monday, July 1, 2013.

Police said an autopsy revealed Mr Hammond had died as a result of blunt-force trauma to the head.

Following a long five-year investigation, police moved in to arrest a 47-year-old man this morning.

He was detained during an operation by Strike Force Hewitt at Heckenberg, in Sydney’s southwest.

The local man was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with one count of murder.

The 47-year-old has been remanded in custody and is due to front Campbelltown Local Court this afternoon.
