His lawyer told the court she is seeking a mental health assessment for her client.

Police documents also claim Currey, who is believed to have been under the influence of ice during the incident, pointed a hand gun at officers after they approached his car.

Officers had been on the hunt for Currey throughout the morning after he was allegedly spotted driving erratically through Pimpama and Chevron Island.

Police made several attempts to pull him over, but he repeatedly sped off.

Currey is facing 13 charges, including serious assault of a police officer and receiving stolen goods. The gun he allegedly pointed at police is believed to have been stolen from a safe at an Upper Coomera house on September 18.

He made no application for bail and his matter has been adjourned until October 13.
