Air Asia X celebrates 10 years of flying to the Gold Coast

Today marks 10 years since AirAsia X introduced its first low-cost long-haul service between Malaysia and the Gold Coast.

In that time, the airline has delivered more than 2.4 million seats between the two destinations, as well as 400,000 seats between the Gold Coast and Auckland since March 2016.

To mark the occasion, an AirAsia X flight arriving at Gold Coast Airport this morning from Kuala Lumpur was greeted with a water cannon salute.

“That was a game changing moment for us and the start of a close relationship with AirAsia X over the next 10 years,” Mr Mills said.

“It gave Gold Coasters an affordable and convenient travel option to Asia and just as importantly, put the growing Asian market in easy reach of us.”

AirAsia X Malaysia CEO Benyamin Ismail told myGC he was very excited to be celebrating 10 years, and was looking forward to another great 10 years.

“This is a market we believe we can continue to grow over the next 10 years,” he said. “For us, we are trying to connect the whole world to the Gold Coast and bring them here so they can experience how beautiful it is.”

Mr Ismail said Gold Coasters will also be able to enjoy the celebrations, with some special deals on offer.

“Next week we will be announcing very low fares, so customers need to look out for that!”
