Airtasker lifts rates above minimum wage following Union report

Job outsourcing website and app, Airtasker, has been forced to raise its recommended hourly rate following a damning report by Unions NSW that revealed workers were earning below minimum wage.

Airtasker is an online platform that allows people to advertise tasks they need done and potential workers bid for the job.

The report found workers were receiving $17 per hour for jobs like cleaning, while the Australian minimum wage is $17.70.

Office administration and research jobs were paid $14.45, also after Airtasker’s 15 per cent fee was taken off.

As a result they have updated the rates by 45 per cent, so workers will now receive $21.25 for all tasks.

Unions NSW say they are happy with the changes, but the company still has a lot of work to do to deal with other “alarming breaches” including no superannuation, workers compensation, casual or leave loading.
