UPDATE @ 9.00 AM | A motorcyclist has been hospitalised after a nasty incident on the M1 this morning.
Emergency services were called to the southbound lanes just before the Smith Street exit.
Traffic was banked up back to Pimpama for almost an hour during the peak-hour commute.

A man in his 20s was assessed at the scene, before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Early inquiries suggest that a car had stopped abruptly ahead of his vehicle, causing him to slam on the breaks and lock his wheels.
EARLIER @ 7.20 AM | Major delays for the M1 southbound this morning, after a horror crash involving a motorcyclist.
It happened just before the busy Smith Street Exit around 7.00 am.
All three lanes of traffic are funnelling into one to get past the crash site.
It’s understood a motorbike rider came off the vehicle, with a number of other cars stopping to assist them.
Emergency services are rushing to the scene, with witnesses reporting a couple of ambulances had arrived around 7.20 am.
Queensland Ambulance has confirmed that critical care paramedics have also been deployed.
Meantime, southbound traffic is being warned to expect delays, with cars already banked up back to Coomera.
