Alleged drug trafficker set to be extradited from NSW to QLD

Attempts will be made to extradite a man from New South Wales to Queensland over a drug trafficking operation that was allegedly producing and distributing the drug Ice in Sydney and on the Gold Coast.

The CCC issued an arrest warrant for the 35-year-old man in June 2016 after identifying him during Operation Gloss.

That investigation was conducted jointly with the New South Wales Police and was focused on the Queensland-based activities of a criminal syndicate that was allegedly producing and distributing crystal methylamphetamine or Ice.

On Saturday the 35-year-old man was identified by Australian Border Force officers at Sydney International Airport and was subsequently arrested by the Australian Federal Police on the grounds of the CCC’s arrest warrant. He was remanded in custody.

CCC officers will travel to Sydney on Monday to attend a court hearing at Sydney Central Court to apply for the extradition.

If the man is extradited, it is expected he will face the Brisbane Magistrates Court later this week.
