Alleged drunk driver accused of head-butting police in violent struggle

A POLICE officer has had his forehead split open after being head-butted by an aggressive drunk driver at Redbank Plains this morning.

The driver was allegedly sitting in a vehicle which had become stuck halfway in a causeway in the Redbank Plains Reserve on Redbank Plains Road around 3am.

As officers approached the car, the 28-year-old Booval man allegedly jumped out of the front driver’s seat and rushed towards them in an aggressive manner.

The man allegedly shoved one officer and head-butted another, causing a laceration above his eye. The man was eventually arrested following a violent struggle and was placed in the back of a police van.

Whilst being transported to the Ipswich Watchhouse, police allege the man then damaged a perspex window of the police vehicle.

The 28-year-old has since been charged with two counts of serious assault police and one count each of fail to provide a specimen of breath, driving under the influence of liquor or a drug, obstruct police and wilful damage.

He is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on 10 January.

The injured officer was later taken to hospital where he received treatment for the cut above his eye.
