Alleged drunk driver leaves behind trail of destruction on the Gold Coast

AN alleged drunk driver has left behind a trail of destruction on the Gold Coast after losing control of his car and wiping out half a dozen innocent motorists.

The dramatic scenes unfolded on Oxley Drive in Runaway Bay on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said they received multiple triple zero calls around 1.30pm after a Holden Commodore (pictured below) careened out of control down the main road and smashed into six cars at multiple locations.

After colliding with a bus at the intersection of Kangaroo Avenue and Waterbird Place, the driver parked his wrecked Commodore outside his home and allegedly started walking away from the scene.

He has since been charged with a long list of offences, including mid-range drink driving, driving without due care and attention and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.

The man is due to front Southport Magistrates Court on May 3.
