Alleged Gold Coast drug mule arrested in Townsville

A GOLD Coast man accused of being one of many drug mules who allegedly trafficked over 400 kilograms of cannabis on 15 flights through domestic airport terminals has been arrested in Townsville.

The Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad arrested the 30-year-old man from Maudsland following the closure of the Operation Kilo Zurich on the Gold Coast earlier last month.

The man had been arrested earlier in the operation following an alleged attempt to convey 10 kilograms of the drug to a Townsville based distributor.

He has been charged with trafficking dangerous drugs as a member of a criminal organisation under the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment legislation.

He is expected to appear before the Townsville Magistrates Court on Friday morning.

Police say the latest arrest brings the total number of people charged during the major police operation to 27 offenders on 68 charges.
