Alleged Gold Coast one punch victim dies in hospital

A man who was critically injured in an alleged one-punch attack on the Gold Coast earlier this month has died in hospital.

Two men, who are known to each other, were walking along Surfers Paradise Boulevard just before 4am on December 10 when one allegedly punched the other.

A 39-year-old man from New South Wales fell to the ground, hitting his head on the concrete.

Police officers performed CPR on the man before he was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

The man had been in an induced coma but died overnight.

A 26-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was originally charged with grievous bodily harm.

Those charges have now been upgraded to unlawful striking causing death.

The man is due to front Southport Magistrates Court today.
