Alleged mail thieves caught red-handed stealing from letter boxes on the Gold Coast

A MAN and a woman aged in their 40s have been charged with rifling through letter boxes and stealing peoples mail on the Gold Coast.

The couple’s mail-stealing spree only came to an end on Wednesday after an eagle-eyed resident spotted the 42-year-old man stealing from mail boxes on Back Street in Biggera Waters.

Police were called and, while patrolling the area, allegedly caught the same man red-handed stealing mail from letter boxes on Bayview Street in Runaway Bay.

A 43-year-old woman from Southport who police allege was helping the man was allegedly found sitting in a car nearby, guarding a “substantial amount” of mail, including stolen drivers licences.

The pair were both issued with Notices to Appear in Southport Magistrates Court later this month.

The woman will appear on two counts of possessing property suspected of being stolen and one count each of stealing mail and forging a drivers licence.

The man from Labrador will appear on one charge of stealing mail.

Police said the recovered mail will be returned to the owners “in due course”.
