Alleged serial paedophile charged with 11 counts of child rape in Qld

An alleged serial paedophile has been arrested on the Sunshine Coast and charged with a string of serious child sex offences, including 11 counts of rape.

Police raided the man’s Meridan Plains home yesterday following a protracted investigation into multiple child sex crimes which detectives allege were committed over the past decade.

During a search of the Stavewood Street property, officers located and seized several hard drives, two mobile phones, a number of photographs and a quantity of drugs.

A 62-year-old man was arrested at the house and escorted to Caloundra police station where he was interviewed for several hours.

He has since been charged with 24 counts of indecent treatment of a child and 11 counts of rape relating to offences which police allege were committed between 2004 and 2011.

He has also been charged with one count each of supply liquor to a minor, possess dangerous drugs and possess relevant thing.

Officer in Charge of the Sunshine Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Phil Hurst said further investigations were under way to identify other potential victims.

“The charges we laid overnight relate to offences committed between 2004 and 2011, but we have reason to believe there may have been other victims as well,” Detective Senior Sergeant Hurst said.

“We’d also like anyone who may have any knowledge of these matters to come forward as well.”

The 64-year-old was due to front Maroochydore Magistrate Court today.
