Alleged sword and axe wielding carjacker finally arrested

A man accused of threatening a woman and two children with a sword and an axe has finally been arrested this morning, as the result of a police search in Brisbane.

The search began after the Wednesday afternoon incident, when the 24-year-old man approached a woman and two children with bladed weapons.

He allegedly demanded the woman’s keys for her nearby car, before fleeing in the vehicle.

Police had been searching for the woman’s white hatchback, which was sighted overnight in Slacks Creek, Logan, Browns Plains and Calamvale.

Officers were unable to catch the vehicle as it sped away each time.

A member of the public then recognised the man in Kedron in the early hours of this morning and alerted authorities.

Police deployed a tyre deflation device on the Gateway Motorway southbound around 2.00am, near the old Cleveland Road exit, though the car continued along the Gateway.

The car made it down the Logan Road exit, pulled into oncoming traffic on Logan Road, then eventually came to a stop at the corner of Gaskell Street and Eight Mile Plains.

The 24-year-old is reportedly helping police with other inquiries in Brisbane and Logan, including incidents of threatening police officers, and threatening an elderly couple and stealing their car.
