AN American woman has been arrested at Sydney Airport, allegedly with two kilograms of cocaine in her suitcase.

The 49-year-old was arrested by officers from the Australian Federal Police shortly after arriving at Sydney International Airport on a flight from Los Angeles on Friday.

While proceeding through customs, officers from the Australian Border Force performed a thorough examination of the woman’s luggage.

Officers deconstructed the traveller’s suitcase and allegedly found two kilograms of cocaine concealed within her clothing, makeup, and other items.

Further forensic testing will be conducted to determine the exact weight and purity of the cocaine.

The woman has since been charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, namely cocaine, contrary to section 307.1 of the Criminal Code 1995 (Cth).

She is scheduled to appear in Parramatta Children’s Court today.
