Animal shelter drops prices for Christmas

IF your kids have a playful puppy or snuggly cat on their Christmas list, be sure to check out the Animal Welfare League.

The Coombabah shelter is offering discount prices on all dogs and cats (over 6 months old) this weekend.

Communications Manager Brooke Whitney explains the cost of cats are just $27 and dogs are $37.

“We hope to rehome every single cat and dog who is waiting at the shelter in time for Christmas,” Ms Whitney said.

“They’ve all been desexed, vaccinated and all wormings are up to date. They just need someone to take them home and love them.

“We encourage people to choose to adopt from a shelter, especially over the Christmas break.

“People have a bit more time in their schedule to get to know each other and the pet is settled in when everyone goes back to work.”

The AWL stresses the importance of getting a pet that suits your lifestyle.

“If you go to the beach all the time and you want an active running buddy, we can match you up to a younger dog. But if you’re just after a companion we can find a lap dog or cat that is perfect for you,” Ms Whitney explains.

If the AWL offered subsidised rates on vet bills to pensioners, more of us would love to welcome an older animal into our homes, but we are frightened at the huge cost of their medical care.
