Appeal to identify body of woman found in Southport

Police are appealing for help from the community to identify an elderly woman, whose body was found in the Nerang River at Southport yesterday.

A member of the public made the tragic discovery near the Sundale Bridge in the Broadwater Parklands around 10.30am on Thursday.

The woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious, however police are desperately asking for help to identify her.

The woman did not have any identification with her when she was found and there have been no missing persons reports listed for her either.

Officers have been door-knocking homes in the local area, however have so far had no success.

It’s prompted them to issue an appeal to people to check on the welfare of their elderly neighbours or relatives, particularly those living alone.

The woman is described as having a Caucasian appearance, around 75 to 80 years old with short grey hair.

She was wearing a purple and white floral buttoned shirt (with the pattern pictured below) and dark blue long pants and no shoes.
