Officers observed the vehicle as it continued to drive dangerously down the M1 before exiting and making its way to the Gold Coast Highway.

A short time later, one of the tyres popped and the driver was forced to flee the vehicle.

It’s alleged the man, who was armed with a knife and carrying a dog, then attempted to steal a car.

The driver has refused to comply and the man has then allegedly attempted to steal two other cars in Golden Four Drive.

He was confronted by police in Golden Four Drive and has surrendered without incident.

The man was treated for minor injuries at the Gold Coast University Hospital and was later charged.

A 24-year-old Mermaid Beach man was charged with three counts of attempted robbery and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to stop a motor vehicle, failing to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash, entering a dwelling with intent, stealing and receiving tainted property.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court this morning.
