A MAN has been shot by police after lunging at them while armed with knives in the middle of a Gold Coast street.
Officers were called to Wentworth Avenue, Molendinar, shortly before 10.40pm on Monday after receiving reports a man was armed with knives in the middle of the street and ‘causing a disturbance’.
When they arrived, they repeatedly asked the man the man to drop the knives but he allegedly refused.

He is then accused of charging at the officers, forcing them to open fire.
According to police, a number of shots were fired, striking the man in the torso several times.
He has been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition where he is currently receiving treatment.
A crime scene has been established at Wentworth Avenue.
The Queensland Police Service said it was investigating the incident.
“As with all critical incidents, the Ethical Standard Command have been advised and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” A QPD statement read.
“Local officers are supporting their colleagues and the Police Union is offering support to officers who attended the scene.
“There is no further information available at this time.”
