An armed man has been shot dead by police on the Monash Freeway in Melbourne this morning.
Police were called to the on-ramp of the freeway at the Eastlink interchange at Dandenong North around 9.30am, following reports that a man was armed with a weapon.
Upon arrival, it’s understood responding officers became involved in a tense stand-off with the man when he was shot.

“An armed man has been shot by police following an incident in Dandenong North this morning,” Victoria Police confirmed in a statement a short time ago.
“It is believed officers were negotiating with the man when he was shot by police and died at the scene.
“There is no ongoing threat to the community.”
Victoria Police said Homicide Squad detectives will investigate the incident.
It will be oversighted by Professional Standards Command, as per protocol when a police firearm is discharged.
