Ash Barty pulls out of US Open due to coronavirus concerns

Aussie’s favourite tennis star Ash Barty has pulled out of the US Open.

The major tennis tournament is one of the few sporting events of 2020 that is still going ahead, and is due to kick off on September first.

But women’s world number one Ash Barty now reportedly won’t be taking part, due to concerns around the coronavirus pandemic.

She’s said that she doesn’t feel comfortable and doesn’t want to put their team at risk during the pandemic.

“My team and I have decided that we won’t be travelling to the US for the Western and Southern Open and the US Open this year.

“I love both events so it was a difficult decision but there are still significant risks involved due to Covid-19 and I don’t feel comfortable putting my team and I in that position,” she said.

Barty could also be missing the upcoming French Open and other European events, but is still yet to make an official call.
