Ash Barty has been named the Sports Personality of the Year at the Australian Institute of Sport Awards.
Over 35,000 votes were cast, with voters admiring Barty’s fairplay, grace and humility, as well as her exceptional all-court game.
The world number one also took out two other awards; the Female Athlete of the Year award and Sporting Moment of the Year.

Barty says it’s an honour knowing the community voted for her.
“I love to engage with the fans and I love to engage with the public in Australia.
“I feel like we have the best sporting vibe in the world, we are a sporting nation, we love it, I love it, I love all sport.
“So to be able to get this recognition from the public is amazing,” Barty said.

Snowboarder Scotty James has been named men’s athlete of the year.
