LATEST @ 5.15 PM | The Counter Terrorism Team has been called in to help investigate the attempted murder of a police officer in Sydney’s CBD.
A 32-year-old man was taken into custody early this morning after allegedly slashing a police officer across the face with a knife and injuring two others.
The horror incident unfolded around 12.20am, when police responded to a call for help from a food delivery rider who was allegedly being harassed by the man.

Sydney City detectives, with assistance of the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team, have since conducted a search warrant at a hostel on York Street, near where they alleged attack took place.
During the raid, they seized a number of items of interest which will undergo examination.
The 32-year-old man remains in the charging process at Day Street Police Station and is likely to face court tomorrow.
Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing, however they have stressed that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
EARLIER @ 12.45 PM | A police officer has been slashed across the face with a knife and two others injured in a horror attack in Sydney’s CBD early this morning.
Police were called to George Street around 12.20am, following reports a food delivery rider was allegedly being harassed by a man.
Shortly after, responding officers spotted the suspect walking along York Street, when he allegedly removed a knife from his pocket and attacked them.
One officer was slashed across his head and shoulder, another was slashed on the hand, while a third officer was bitten on the arm.
The 32-year-old man was eventually disarmed and arrested before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for assessment.
The injured officers were also transported to St Vincent’s Hospital, with a 40-year-old male senior constable undergoing treatment for a laceration to the side of his head and a second laceration to his shoulder.
A 39-year-old male acting sergeant received treatment for a laceration on his finger and a knee injury, while a 20-year-old male probationary constable was treated for a bite to his tricep.
The man has since been released from hospital and charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder and wound person with intent to resist/prevent arrest.
He was also charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.
The man has been refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today.
