Aussie actor Hugh Jackman awarded Order of Australia medal

Australian actor Hugh Jackman has received his Companion of the Order of Australia.

The X-Men star was given the honour at a special ceremony with the Governor General in Canberra on Friday.

“Mr Jackman’s distinguished career, his compassion and his heartfelt patriotism have brought great credit to Australia and he is deserving of our highest praise,” the governor-general’s secretary Paul Singer said.


Shortly after the ceremony, Jackman praised his wife and family.

“On this occasion, I’m reminded that I share this honor with my parents, siblings, friends and, especially w Deb, Oscar & Ava,” Jackman wrote on social media.

“There are countless teachers, coaches and mentors who’ve taught and inspired me along the way. I will forever be in their debt. Thank you Governor General.”

The Greatest Showman star was given the honour for his contributions to the performing arts and his work for ending poverty.
