Australian surfer Stephanie Gilmore has beaten fellow Aussie Tyler Wright to win the Maui Pro.
The Tweed local beat her countrywoman 14.16 to 9.67 in the final at Honolua Bay this morning.
Despite the loss, it was a remarkable finish for Wright, who spent around 17 months away from the competition due to a lengthy battle with illness.

She told Fox Sports she’s stoked to be back.
“It’s been a rough year and a half, and I think coming back, I’m really enjoying my time here,” Wright said.
Hawaii’s Carissa Moore already took out the world title, after Steph Gilmore beat Caroline Marks in the quarter finals.
Moore is now the sixth female surfer ever to win four titles.
