Aussie teen released in Bali

Perth teenager Jamie Murphy has been released by Bali police, after police revealed the packet of white powder found on him was not an illicit drug.

Murphy claimed he didn’t know what he was purchasing when he bought a packet of white powder off the street, which turned out to be a mixture of caffeine tablets and cold medication.

The 18-year-old was detained by security at a Kuta nightclub on Tuesday morning, after they found a small satchel inside his bum bag which contained a white powder.

Initially police believed the substance to be cocaine or heroin, but laboratory tests of the powder and the teenager’s urine came back negative.

It’s believed Murphy purchased the powder from a street vendor, and he didn’t know what it was.

The lawyer for the teen said he is expected to fly home from Bali most likely tomorrow.
