Aussie out of Tour de France after high-speed crash

Australia’s Richie Porte is out of the Tour de France after a high-speed prang during the ninth stage on Sunday.

One of the pre-race favourites, Porte was in a group of seven riders when he came off his bike during the descent of Mont du Chat.

He was reported to have braked to avoid the wheel of another rider, but missed a downhill bend and was sent cartwheeling across the road.
