THE QANTAS Australian Women’s Sevens team have clinched the world series opening round in Dubai overnight, with a convincing 31-12 victory over Russia in the final.
This is the second Dubai title in three years for the team under coach Tim Walsh.
The Australians had only 10 players to choose from for the final after being cursed with an injury cloud, which saw forwards Sharni Williams ruled out with a knee injury and Chloe Dalton suffering shoulder issues.

Tries from Amy Turner and Nicole Beck gave the side an early 10-0 lead before Russia hit back right before half time.
Meanwhile, England came away with third after narrowly edging out France in sudden death extra-time.
The second round of the world championship series will see Brazil play host in mid-February.
