Australia win first Com Games medal

Jacob Birtwhistle is the first Australian to win a medal at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, with a silver in the Men’s Triathlon.

Birtwhistle ran down the competition in the last leg of the event and finished only seven seconds behind gold medallist Henri Schoeman.

The Tasmanian was one of three young Aussies in the race, with Matt Hauser claiming fourth and Luke Willian finishing eighth.

Gold Coast local, Matt Hauser led the pack for most of the race and told MyGC he was extremely proud of his efforts.

“I think I’ve always had that sort of race in me, I’m always pushing to do my best for my country,” he said.

“I emptied the tank out there.”
