Australia wins the first Ashes test

Australia has won the first Ashes test, beating their English rivals by a whopping 251 runs.

It’s the first time in 18 years they’ve won a test at Edgbaston.

Nathon Lyon was crucial on the final day, taking 6 for 49.

While Steve Smith made two centuries over the test, and was named man of the match.

He says it’s been a pretty special comeback to the sport for him.

“I’m over the moon to be standing here now and to have contributed to such a great win for Australia,” Smith said.

It’s the first time the Aussies have won the opening game of an away series since 2005, and the first time England has lost an Ashes Test in Birmingham since 2001.

The next test starts at Lord’s on August 14.
