Australian athlete arrested in Glasgow Commonwealth Games athletes’ village

UPDATE: AN AUSTRALIAN athlete will face a Glasgow Court tomorrow, after being arrested at the Games Village overnight.

Weightlifter Francois Etoundi, 29, was detained after Scottish Police reported to a disturbance within the 35-hectare village, located near Celtic Stadium in the city’s east end.

“A 29 year-old  man has been arrested and is presently detained in custody in connection with an alleged assault following an altercation within the athletes’ village in Glasgow on Wednesday the 30 of July,” they said.

Etoundi, who is attending his third games in Glasgow, won his first Commonwealth medal in the 77kg class on Sunday.


Australian team officials are yet to confirm reports an athlete has been charged.
