Australian man dies after being struck by lightning at Grand Canyon

AN Australian man has died after being struck by what is believed to be a lightning strike while hiking at the Grand Canyon National Park.

Jonathan Crowden was allegedly hiking alone on Sunday afternoon before his body was discovered about 1.6 km down the South Kaibab Trail.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after a witness phoned them to report that the man may have been struck by lightning.


Paramedics performed CPR on the 21-year-old Melbourne man however he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crowden’s death is being investigated.

The canyon is one of the world’s most popular outdoor tourist attractions.
