A West Australian man has died in a shark attack off New Caledonia yesterday.
The man, aged in his 50s, was kitesurfing on a reef in Koumac when he fell into the water and was bitten on the thigh by a large shark, local officials say.
A rescue boat was sent to bring the man to shore, however he could not be revived.
The species of shark involved in the attack is not yet known.
