An Australian mine-clearing expert, described as a “guru and mentor” by colleagues, has died in northern Iraq while trying to defuse a bomb.
The man was leading a team of 30 from the not-for-profit Swiss Foundation for Mine Action at Daquq, some 200km north of Baghdad, when he was killed on Tuesday morning.
His family in Australia has been informed of his death.
