Australian schoolgirl killed in bomb blast at Baghdad ice-cream shop

A 12-year-old Australian schoolgirl has been killed in a bomb blast in Iraq.

The youngster, believed to be from Melbourne, was at an ice-cream parlour in Baghdad with her family when a car bomb exploded.

17 people, including the young girl, were killed in the attack which ISIS have since claimed responsibility for.

Confronting videos posted to social media show people lying on the footpath seriously injured.

It’s understood the girl was in the country visiting her sick grandfather.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says the Australian Government is providing consular assistance.
