Alleged Australian foreign fighter back home after being deported from Turkey

A man, believed to be from the Gold Coast, is being extradited to Queensland after allegedly being caught fighting for a terror group in Syria.

Agim Ajazi touched down in Australia overnight after being deported from Turkey.

The 30-year-old appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court via video link on Monday and is expected to be extradited to Brisbane this afternoon.


According to The Advertiser, he is one of more than a dozen alleged Islamic State terror group fighters deported from Turkey in recent weeks.

Others are believed to be from Germany, France, the US and UK.

The Australian Government is yet to make a comment.
