The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it was providing assistance to an Australian woman arrested in Colombia, but would not provide further details.
According to the woman’s sister, she was in the country for a working holiday.
The woman’s family claim she is innocent and has been set up and they have since set up an online campaign to help bring her home.
“Our hearts break, because we know she is innocent, but stands little chance of proving it in such a corrupt country,” the campaign reads.
“Cassie was planning her upcoming wedding to the love if her life, she has her full life ahead of her, and now its all put on the line because of this.
“We miss her so much, and since we have very little contact with her its very hard. We just want her home safe and sound where she belongs.”
