Baby among five injured after SUV ploughs into crowd of people in Sydney
AN SUV has careened out of control and ploughed into a crowd of people on Sydney’s lower north shore.
Five people, including a baby, were hit by the SUV when it ploughed through a pedestrian mall at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Anderson Street in Chatswood around 3.45pm on Saturday.
It’s understood the man behind the wheel may have suffered a medical episode before losing control of the vehicle and mounting a footpath outside a packed restaurant.
A woman has been airlifted to the Royal North Shore Hospital with serious injuries, while the four other victims, including a baby, have been taken to hospital by road ambulance.
Their ages and conditions are not yet known.
NSW Police has confirmed the incident is being treated as an accident and not as an act of terrorism.
The driver remains at the scene where he is assisting police with their inquiries.
